Our businesses are like our little babies. We spend years nurturing them and perfecting our offerings so we can help provide something people will be excited for and want to buy.

Selling is an art. Having a product or service you think is a masterpiece isn’t enough to convince everyone else they should buy it. You have to play the long game sometimes and take little steps to build momentum.

Here’s 5 tips to help you perfect your selling, help you grow authentically and build up your clientele.

No.1 - Competitions/Giveaways

Giveaways, or competitions, are perfect for gaining new eyes on your product or services. Everyone loves a freebie so they’re happy to tag and share if there’s a chance at winning something, even if it’s not something they would buy.

This is brilliant because, even if they won’t ever buy what your selling, their friend might. Putting on a giveaway let’s everyone tag friends and family, as well as sharing it on their platform for all their followers to see.

Initially you will get a load of new followers, which means more eyes on your offerings, and long term you have potentially gained new paying customers.

No.2 - Collabs

Collaborations are ideal for creating a hype and connecting with a new audience. Team up with someone who has a similar following, or more, and create something that both parties can share and get their followers excited about.

This will open you up to their followers, and them yours, not only increasing your potential customers but also increasing your reputation and connections within an industry.

Doing a joint giveaway is one idea, or teaming up for photoshoots, workshops or pop up shops.

No.3 - UGC

User Generated Content (UGC) is where you pay your customers to create content, either photos or video, about your products and services. You can either pay them to do it or offer them products, or services, on a service for service basis.

One benefit of UGC is that when your customers share content about your product their followers see the content giving your brand more exposure. Lets say you have a hundred customers, and each one of those customers creates and shares UGC with a hundred followers, then tens of thousands of people will see your products.

Another type of UGC is when customers create quality content for you to share on your brands socials. This is done to increase brand trust and increase sales. Lots of studies have been done to show how beneficial UGC can be for a business.

Some stats:

  • UGC is 42% more effective and 6.9 times more engaging than content created by brands.

  • 60% of consumers trust UGC over content created by the brand.

  • 76% of consumers believe UGC is more trustworthy than brand created content.

  • 68% of consumers are willing to spend more when they trust a brand.

  • 84% of millennials state that UGC influences what they buys.

  • 86% say that UGC is a good indicator of a brands quality.

So it’s clear to see content created by your users is a great tool for your business. Take some time to have a think about how you could incorporate UGC into your business.

No.4 - Improve your content

If your social media account is the face of your business, your shop window, then it is vital that you have visually appealing and consistent content.

The images, and text, you post online is how your potential clients/customers interact and rate your business so it’s really important you share and create decent quality content.

What you post depends on a number of things and you should never copy what other people post. To gain trust you have to be authentic because people know if it’s not! So whether you hire in a professional to create the content for you (which I advice) or you do it yourself, try to stay consistent with the quality and spend some time to plan. You wouldn’t just throw together a shop window without thought and care would you? It’s the same with your Instagram feed.

No.5 - Quality in all areas

On the subject of quality, your ‘shop window’ isn’t the only area you should focus on. Website, products, packaging and even interaction with customers should all possess the same level of quality.

There is no point having a nice instagram feed that sends traffic to a poor, unprofessional looking website. The same quality and vibe has to flow through every area of your business.
