Content Do’s and Don’ts

Writer's picture: SamanthaSamantha

We are all aware that it’s all about the content nowadays! Not only do we live our personal lives through social media but our businesses have mainly become social media driven!

It’s perfect really because it allows us to build a real authentic expression of our businesses personality and ethos through casual interaction and connecting.

But, with that being said, it’s not always done right which can be detrimental to your businesses image. In this blog I will share with you ways to improve your businesses image and use social media to grow with my top do’s and don’ts when it comes to content!

Do #1 - Be Consistent

Whether your main source of interaction with your clients or customers comes from Instagram or through your website you need visual consistency. Without it your business looks unprofessional and unattractive. People landing on your online profile won’t engage well because there’s no clear theme to follow.

We all have short attention spans now due to our techy driven world. It has led us to needing instant stimuli and it’s only getting shorter so when potential clients land on your page they need to be sucked in within seconds! That’s not gonna happen if your feed or website isn’t showing a clear and consistent brand image.

So we want consistent content that within seconds people know it’s being shared by your brand.

Do #2 - Make it interesting

No one wants boring posts. If you really want to grab the attention of passing eyes you gotta make it interesting (while still being in brand).

Like we touched on above, everyone’s attention span is shortened so it’s vital to grab their attention as they skim over hundreds of posts a day.

Do #3 - Share specific content for your ideal client

Knowing your ideal client is so so important when growing your business because, if done right, you will know exactly who your talking to and what content to share to help them.

Once you have your ideal client in mind you can share content they will be interested in. This will help them connect with you and your business and create a good relationship.

Let’s move onto the Don’ts...

Don’t #1 - Post stuff your clients aren’t interested in

Following on from our last Do.. It’s important, if you want to grow and sustain your customers, that you don’t share content that your customers/clients aren’t interested in. This is going to kill your engagement and cause your customers to be bored.

If your using social media as a key element in your business then it’s important you put the effort in to make sure it shines light on your business. Otherwise your wasting your time and potentially giving off the wrong impression.

Example: If your business is selling cosmetic products and your Instagram is where you want to attract customers then sharing content of your messy bathroom, or your niece on a swing, might not be what your customers are wanting to see from your page, they will disengage.

This is not to say you can’t blend your life with your business because you certainly can and I personally believe this is the best way to sell these days, because people buy people now, but there is a way to do it. It’s all about creating a strong brand that incorporates life and business while still looking professional and exciting.

Don’t #2 - Post boring images

Instagram is full of the most beautiful pictures and videos you could image. Everyone is so used to seeing inspiring, stunning imagery, the standard is pretty high these days.

Like I’ve already mentioned it’s all about grabbing the attention of scrolling eyes so make it pretty so they stop in their tracks for a minute. If its boring, or doesn't look nice, they will scroll past.

Don’t #3 - Poor quality

One thing that can instantly make your business look more professional is better quality imagery, especially if social media is your main attraction! (but website visuals are just as important!)

Not only will better visual content improve your businesses image, so will better quality captions. Learn what works best with your target audience and share more of that.

Every business is different and so is what their clients and customers want to read about so it’s vital you niche down your ideal client so you know what content is going to interest them and get them on board. Ignoring this step will waste your time and you will miss out on business opportunities.
